BISMARCK, N.D. – Last week we told you about some research projects first graders at Will-Moore Elementary were working on.

The students were studying indigenous heroes, both past and present.

Word of their projects spread, and Thursday they got a special visit from one of the subjects of their research.

Dr. Twyla Baker spent some time at Will-Moore Elementary Thursday afternoon.

She says as an educator and a mom it was important to her that she make time to meet these kids, and to share an important message.

“We are neighbors, we are friends, and we have a lot more in common than we don’t,” said Baker.

Dr. Baker grew up on the Fort Berthold Indian reservation and is now president of the Nueta Hidatsa Sanish College there.
