Golf: MSU’s Reynolds places second in Upper Iowa Spring Invite

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State senior Cody Reynolds finished second with a score of six over to lead the MSU men’s golf team to a third-place finish in the Upper Iowa Spring Invite at the completion of the two-round event on Friday and Saturday in Waterloo, Iowa.

Reynolds played under through the majority of the second round and finished with a course-best two under par to place second in the tournament. On Saturday, Reynolds birdied two, six, 13, 14, and 18 during his round of 70, which resulted in a two under par performance. The upperclassman did not do worse than a bogey as he mixed in three of those during his round.

The Beavers put two in the top-10 during action at the UIU Spring Invite. Meanwhile, junior Andrew Makarchuk joined Reynolds with a solid performance, posting rounds of 80 in the first and 77 in the second to battle his way to just two shots back of fifth-place in the tournament, finishing the second round five over on Saturday.

Makarchuk birdied hole number three and hole number seven during Saturday’s final round. He hit a one over 37 on the front nine of action during the second round.

MSU freshman Easton Evanoff finished the second round strong with a six over 81 round on the final day of action. Evanoff carded a 17 over the tournament with a 21 over performance. Fellow Beavers freshman Sid Ullyott registered a nine-over effort in the final round after shooting 81 on Saturday. Ullyott finished tied for 22nd with an overall score of 26 over.

Yet another MSU freshman, Aimery Barrault, posted a 12 over in the second round. Barrault finished 26th with a score of 30 over. As for junior Arron Grandy, playing as an individual, he posted a 27 over two rounds and finished tied for 24th. His score is not incorporated in the overall team score.

Up next, the Beavers men’s golf team plans to compete in the Hardrocker Spring Classic on April 12 and 13. The event will be hosted by the South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Anya Ross takes fourth to lead MSU women to fifth-place in Upper Iowa Spring Invite

In women’s golf, Anya Ross paced the Minot State University women’s golf team with a fourth-place finish overall after posted 20 over following the Upper Iowa Spring Invite on Friday and Saturday in Waterloo, Iowa.

The Beavers as a team finished fifth with a score of 123 over. Upper Iowa won the event with an 82 over score including a round of 28 over today. Winona State finished second at 100 over, Minnesota State finished third at 106 over and Mount Mercy finished four with 119 over par.

Ross posted a six over 78 during the second and final round of action after recording an 86 during Friday’s opening round. The junior finished with 164 total strokes and just one shot back of the third-place, Breanna Felderman of Mount Mercy University, and eight shots back of the first-place finisher, MacKayla Olsen of Upper Iowa.

Freshman teammate Jaci Jones finished alone in 15th-place with a 29 over score including a round of 84 in Saturday’s final round. Two other MSU freshman, Taylor Cormier and Holly Knudsen finished 22nd and 26th respectively. Cormier had a score of 34 over after rounds of 91 and 87 while Knudsen concluded matters with two rounds of 92 for a score of 40 over.

Like the MSU men’s squad, the women will also compete in their next event at the Hardrocker Spring Classic on April 12-13.
